Boss Updates

Greetings, all,

This post serves as patch notes for Underworld Bosses. Some of these changes may need to be adjusted based on player interactions with the encounters. If you have comments about the boss encounters, you can file a BUG or IDEA report, or send an email to coders@imperian.com. If you encounter any additional issues with the boss encounters, please file a BUG report.

I've made the following changes:

RESET
A new method of resetting boss encounters has been made, and has been applied to all of the underworld bosses. This should ensure that you don't find a boss with hundreds of summoned mobiles from past attempts, as they will now be properly cleared.

We feel it is important for you to know some detail about the inner workings of this system so you can plan your attacks accordingly. When a boss is engaged (that is, it is hit for the first time or it attacks a player), it begins a countdown (currently set to 60 seconds, though this time may be adjusted based on feedback). That timer is reset each time the boss attempts to attack - this includes special attacks, such as instakills. This means that as long as there is a valid target in the room, the timer will continue to reset back to 60 seconds.

If the timer ends (there is no valid target in the room for 60 seconds), the boss will be reset to the beginning of its encounter. Any adds that were spawned will be despawned, the boss will be placed at its first phase (for multi-phase bosses), and its health will be set to full.

What this means for you: If your group wipes, you have somewhere around 60 seconds to return, or your progress on the encounter will be lost and you will need to start again. If you get overrun and want to force the fight to reset, you can now do so by staying out of the room for 60 seconds.

Now, changes to individual boss encounters:

MAIRYA
- Fixed a bug causing Mairya not to attack.
- This may mean we need to make further adjustments. Please file a bug report or send an email to coders@imperian.com if you feel there are any major balance issues.
- Roughly tripled the time between firefly attacks. I did not adjust the spawn rate.
- Capped the number of fireflies present at one time to 30. If you get this many, you're probably going to wipe anyway.
- It is no longer possible to intimidate/cowardice/lure Mairya, the sprites, or the fireflies.

GELOR
- It is no longer possible to intimidate/cowardice/lure Gelor or his camel.

FELAN
- It is no longer possible to intimidate/cowardice/lure Felan or his basilisk.

LIRA
- Scaled down the damage from wolf attacks. Damage from all wolf attacks will now be lower, and the white wolf no longer deals AOE damage.
- A message is now displayed when a wolf is grappled.
- Lira's primary instakill was not properly giving warning messages before killing people. Whoops. This is now fixed.
- It is no longer possible to intimidate/cowardice/lure Lira or her wolves.

IKTARU
- Ik'taru no longer does his normal attacks while stunned.
- Ik'taru now deals damage when he becomes unstunned.
- Added a message to clarify the source of the bodyguards. Their spawn method was not changed in any way, as there was no bug in the spawning process.
- However, bodyguards will no longer spawn if there are more than 30 in the room.
- Fixed a bug with the bodyguards that made them not able to be sacrificed.
- It is no longer possible to intimidate/cowardice/lure Ik'taru or his bodyguards.

ILOM
- Added a message that notes when you become the target of a statue.
- It is no longer possible to intimidate/cowardice/lure Ilom or his statues.

KALIKA
- It is no longer possible to intimidate/cowardice/lure Kalika.

Penned by my hand on the 20th of Letum, in the year 55 AM.
