-*A note on doubleshot -

This ability is discussed quite a bit. I just wanted to outline our
position on this ability. It was mentioned in the Classlead report that
doubleshot is slower than firing two quickshots. This is not true. I
tested it myself with a hornbow, and all three levels of artifact bows.
In all cases, the doubleshot was faster than two quickshots. This test
also does not take into consideration the fact that there is going to be
some delay (as a result of reaction time and network latency) between
the two quickshots.

Furthermore, most combat in Imperian is not particularly well-suited for
powerful, ranged combat. Most classes need to be in the same room with
their opponent, and giving one class an extremely powerful ranged attack
(which doubleshot easily was) clearly did not work in Imperian. There
are always exceptions to every rule, but the power of doubleshot did not
warrant it being one of them.

Finally, there is some contention that the only problem with the
original doubleshot was that it was only powerful when used with an
artifact bow. I can assure you that this was unequivocally not the case.
The doubleshot ability was extremely powerful, even when used with a
plain hornbow. So much so that it was capable of doing more damage than
any other (non insta-kill) ability in the game. I emphasise the fact
that this was with a hornbow, not an artifact. The artifact bows simply
compounded the problem.

With all of this said, we're sympathetic with the frustration with
doubleshot as presented in the Classlead report, and we've sped up the
ability slightly, as was requested.

In summary, our intention is that Bowmanship provide utility as a
support skill. For the reasons provided above as they relate to ranged
combat, it cannot serve effectively as the primary combat skill.

Kiandre and Valethar have been with me since last year, and are instrumental with the work they have done for the…
