APRIL FOOLS' DAY!

This post was 2008's April Fools' Day hoax. The policies outlined in
this post are not enforced in Imperian. It remains solely for
entertainment value, and does not represent Imperian's policies.

*********************************************************************

As promised in my "Plans for 2008" thread on the forums, I've taken a
substantial amount of time from working on Classleads to restructure
Imperian's PK rules. It was rather ridiculous that all of the rules are
scattered through a bunch of help files and different announce posts.
So, I'm going to post every PK-related rule that I can think of and put
them all in this post.

I've also decided to make the PK rules in Imperian much more strict, as
it's clear that too many people are abusing loopholes and vagueness in
Imperian's rules solely to ruin somebody else's playing experience. This
is clearly unacceptable, and something that I've been forced to address.

In the future, to point out rules to anybody else, or to read them for
your own benefit, simply READNEWS ANNOUNCE 1101.

PK-MOTIVE
---------
These rules will first introduce a new concept to Imperian - PK-Motive.
PK-Motive is simply the state of having a sufficient reason to attack
someone in Imperian. If you don't have PK-Motive, you simply are not
allowed to attack someone. If you attack someone without PK-Motive, you
are opening yourself up to punishment from Imperian's Administration.

OBTAINING PK MOTIVE
-------------------
Later in this post I will detail all of the ways in which a player can
obtain PK Motive on another player.

HOW LONG DOES PK-MOTIVE LAST
----------------------------
Depending on the situation in which you gained PK-Motive on another
player, it will expire some time later. The time limits during which you
will be able to obtain your revenge will be explained later in this post
for each of the methods by which you may obtain PK-Motive.

LOSING PK-MOTIVE
----------------
You lose PK-Motive either when you kill the person or after the time
limit on that specific PK-Motive has expired. It is possible to have
multiple PK-Motives against the same person. Each PK-Motive may have its
own time limit, so make sure to pay attention!

OPEN PK-MOTIVE
--------------
Some players in Imperian will always be available for attack by you, at
any time, for as long as you want. These players are those whom you are
considered to have "Open PK-Motive". Open PK-Motive is reserved only for
the worst offenders in Imperian, and is only granted in very special
cases. Those special cases will be explained below.

ORGANISATIONAL PK-MOTIVE
------------------------
There is no such thing as organisational PK-Motive. PK-Motive is given
only on a personal basis. At no time can you attack someone based on
your or their organisational basis.

PUNISHMENT
----------
If you attack someone and you do not have PK-Motive, you will be
punished by Imperian's Administration. PK-Motive is an elegant and
simple solution. Quite frankly, we know when you have it, and we know
when you don't. There is no argument against the simple facts of
PK-Motive. Imperian's Administration is not stupid and there are no
loopholes in these rules.

The range of punishments is:

First kill without PK-Motive:
- Shrubbed for 7 days

Second kill without PK-Motive:
- Shrubbed for 30 days

Third kill without PK-Motive:
- Permanently banned from Imperian

Any form of an attack against someone without valid PK-Motive -will-
result in immediate punishment. This includes all forms of attacks,
passive or active. Particular areas of concern that you should watch out
for:

- Make sure that your totems only attack people that you have PK-Motive
against.
- When using Area-of-Effect abilities (Elemancy Holocaust, Noctu
Demonrays, etc), make sure that your ability will only ever hit people
against whom you have PK-Motive. Ensuring that there are no hidden
people in the room is -your- responsibility.
- Make sure that any stationary room effects (Rites, Vibes, etc) only
ever affect or attack people against whom you have PK-Motive.
- Make sure that, when using any movement blocking or hindering
abilities, that you have PK-Motive against every single person that your
ability will affect.
- If you're a city leader, or have the ability to enemy people to your
city, make sure that your guards only attack people that you have
PK-Motive against.

PK-MOTIVE SITUATIONS
--------------------

1) SELF-DEFENCE
You do -not- gain PK-Motive if someone attacks you. There is no right to
self-defence in Imperian. If someone is attacking you and he/she does
not have PK-Motive against you, run away. Let's the Administrators sort
it out later. If your attacker truly doesn't have PK-Motive, he/she will
be shrubbed or banned.

2) INSULTS
PK-Motive is gained from insults in the following ways:

a) Insults on the level of calling someone "stupid" or "idiot":
- PK-Motive is granted to the insultee against the insulter
for a period of not less than 6 hours.
b) Insults on the level of insulting someone's parentage:
- PK-Motive is granted to the insultee against the insulter
for a period of not less than 12 hours.
c) Insults on the level of referring to someone as a female
dog:
- 2 PK-Motives are granted to the insultee against the
insulter for a period of not less than 24 hours.
d) Insults involving the use of any other swear word:
- 3 PK-Motives are granted to the insultee against the
insulter for a period of not less than 48 hours.
e) Insults involving the usage of any sexual terminology:
- 5 PK-Motives are granted to the insultee against the
insulter for a period of not less than 72 hours. We
take sexual harassment very seriously in Imperian.
f) Calling someone a "Douchebag" will give the insultee
permanent PK-Motive (Open PK-Motive, as discussed above)
forever.

3) STEALING
PK-Motive is gained when someone steals from you in the following
ways:

a) If someone steals one item from you, you gain PK-Motive
on the thief for a period of not less than 24 hours.
b) If someone steals 3 or more items from you, you gain 2
PK-Motives on the thief for a period of not less than
48 hours.
c) If someone steals 10 or more items from you, you gain 3
PK-Motives on the thief for a period of not less than
72 hours.
d) If you are bashing, and someone takes the gold or corpses
from the creatures that you are killing, you gain PK-Motive
on that person for a period of not less than 4 hours.
e) If you are bashing, and someone starts attacking the same
mob that you are attacking and achieves the killing blow,
he has stolen experience from you and you gain PK-Motive
on that person for a period of not less than 12 hours.
f) If you die and drop any items, those items are fair game
and you do not gain PK-Motive on anybody who picks them up.

4) TRESPASSING
PK-Motive is gained from trespassing in the following ways:

a) If somebody is an enemy of your city or council and is
trespassing within your city's or council's borders, only
the first person to see the trespasser gains PK-Motive on
the trespasser. Nobody else can gain PK-Motive on the
trespasser for trespassing unless the trespasser leaves
the city and comes back. The first person to notice the
trespasser gains PK-Motive on the trespasser until the
trespasser leaves the city. If the trespasser does not
also have PK-Motive on his attacker, he cannot defend
himself against his attacker as defined in section 1)
above. If the trespasser does have PK-Motive and
successfully defends himself against his attacker, the
second person to notify the trespasser's presence within
the city automatically aquires PK-Motive against the
trespasser.
b) If somebody is in your guildhall and is not a member of
your guild, the first person to view the trespasser gains
PK-Motive on the trespasser until he leaves the guildhall.
All other similar rules from section 4a) above apply.
c) If somebody is in your personal house, shop, or stockroom,
you gain PK-Motive on that person until he leaves the room.

5) LOYAL MOBS
PK-Motive is gained when someone attacks or kills your loyal mobs
in the following ways:
a) If someone attacks your mob once, but does not kill it,
and does not continue to attack the mob, you gain PK-motive
against the attacker for a period of not less than 3 hours.
b) If someone attacks your mob more than once, but does not
kill it, you gain PK-motive against the attacker for a
period of not less than 6 hours.
c) If someone attacks and kills one loyal mob of yours in a
single three-hour span, you gain PK-Motive on that person
for a period of not less than 12 hours.
d) If someone attacks and kills two or more loyal mobs of yours
in a single three-hour span, you gain one PK-Motive for each
mob killed for a period of not less than 12 hours.

NOTE: For the PK-Motive clauses in section 5), loyal mobs are
defined as any mobs that are loyal solely to the owner in
question. These include tamed pets, guild pets, house butlers,
and sketches. Intimidation counts as an attack against a pet.
Mobs that do not give PK-Motive include city guards, order mobs,
or any other mob that is loyal to an organisation and not to
person.

6) WAR
There is no such thing as war in Imperian. You can only ever
attack people against whom you have PK-Motive.

LOOPHOLES
---------
There are none. These rules are perfect. Any violation can be verified
factually and will result in punishment.

CHECKING PK-MOTIVE
------------------
Confused about whether or not you have PK-Motive? Don't be. The system
tracks and logs all PK-Motive situations in Imperian. Simply execute the
command PKS to see a list of all people in Imperian against whom you
have PK-Motive.

2021 and Beyond

Hello Imperian! Another year passes! A few months from now will mark my second year on Aetherius. Time sure flies! However, the vast majority of this wouldn’t happen without our wonderful team of volunteers. Kiandre and Valethar have been with me since last year, and are instrumental with the work they have done for the…
