The start of the newbie tour
When you first begin the newbie introduction, you will be placed in Ancient Caanae, just before the Orcish Horde overwhelms it and reduces it ruins. A number of friendly people will be found here that will guide you through your introduction to many useful commands and concepts in Imperian. Your main tutor will be Mathyus, who will greet you when you enter the game. Some basic commands for operating the newbie introduction can be found in HELP INTRO
Part 1: Meeting Mathyus
Welcome to the World of Imperian!
The Abyss.
There are no obvious exits.

Confusion and darkness overcome your senses.

Darkness encompasses your vision as a cool mist surrounds your body.

Struggling to rise, you hear a soft chuckle and your sight begins to clear.

You are approached by an elderly man in thick grey robes.

Mathyus says, "Once again, the heavens have blessed us..."

The man pauses, leaning on his gnarled staff as he casts his eye over you.

Mathyus says, "Greetings Troins, I am Mathyus. I will be your tutor during your
brief time with us. The Gods have instructed that I teach you how to survive."

Mathyus says, "The world is very large, and you are very young. It is my hope
that what you learn here, will help you reach your true potential in the years
to come."

Mathyus carefully inspects you again, before continuing.

Mathyus says, "Yes, you have great potential. I shall begin your education at
once. Time will not wait for us."

Mathyus closes his eyes for a moment, pondering something.

Mathyus says, "There are others who shall assist in your instruction. We shall
press on and meet them."

Mathyus says, "However, I must first point out that you will not survive long
in this world if you do not become more aware of your surroundings."

Mathyus says, "There are numerous ways to do this, the first is simply to LOOK
or L. This will display a full description of where you reside and the visible
exits. Why don't you try that?"

Type LOOK or L to continue the tour. The LOOK command will show you the room name of the room that you are in, the room's description, the items, the creatures, and other players that are in the room with you.
The Dais of Awakening.
This circular platform of slight elevation marks your entry into Caanae of
ancient times, the starting point from where you begin your life in Imperian.
An atmosphere of safety envelops you, as you stand here in awe of the Seal of
Avasyu, which marks the divine protection over this place. Looking beyond the
short hedge surrounding the dais, you see a path leading through a gate to the
garden. Mathyus is here, leaning against his staff.
You see a single exit leading east (open door).

Mathyus says, "Did you notice the exits from this room? From here we can only
leave to the EAST."

Mathyus says, "At times you will be able to move in many directions including
UP, DOWN, IN or OUT."

Mathyus says, "Let's move onwards to the Gardens, shall we?"

Straightening up, Mathyus moves over and opens the eastern gate with his staff,
beckoning you forward.

Mathyus walks out to the east, his staff clicking on the firm ground. Type in E
or EAST to follow him.

Movement in Imperian is easy. All you have to do is type the direction that you want to move in. The list of directions as well as information about opening doors that may block your movement can be found in HELP MOVEMENT. Type EAST or E to move to Mathyus and continue the tour.

to explore or escape danger. I am sure you will learn more of this later. Let

This part is easy. All you have to do to continue the tour is move again. So, once again, type EAST or E to follow Mathyus.

Mathyus is here, leaning against his staff.
You see exits leading northeast and west.

Mathyus says, "Excellent! You are catching on very quickly. This is where we
shall continue your education in the ways of the world."

Mathyus smiles briefly before setting his staff against a large tree in the
garden and sitting down in its cool shade.

Mathyus says, "There are several things you must learn before the gods will
permit you to enter the realm."

Mathyus says, "To begin with, you are not within your time. That is to say you
now exist in what once was Caanae. You see, in what you consider a few short
days our beautiful city, which you see about you, shall be destroyed."

Mathyus says, "Indeed, the accursed Orc hordes shall sweep across this very
valley, destroying the city, slaughtering our families, and enslaving many of
our people."

A look of sadness crosses over the visage of Mathyus as his mind wanders for a
moment.

Mathyus says, "It will be a day of great grieving and pain that will change the
very world itself. But you will learn more of this later."

Mathyus sighs, before looking you in the eyes and continuing.

Mathyus says, "The gods have held many spirits in this nether realm. We have
been told to instruct young ones as they pass through our realm, how they may
survive in the world to come."

Mathyus says, "Many pass from this realm, and many never survive. You must pay
careful attention to our words, lest you fall by the wayside."

Mathyus squints his eyes as he glances at the sky.

Mathyus says, "I have arranged what must be learned into several differing '
tasks'. Before you can pass from this realm, you must complete each one."

Mathyus says, "In order to view these different tasks you can type TASKS at any
time during this tour. Go ahead and try it now."

Type TASKS to view the list of tasks that Mathyus has assigned to you. This command will show you a list of the people that you will be going to talk to during the newbie intro. Each one of those people will have a series of actions that you'll have to take to continue the intro and learn more about Imperian.

pouch and a map, which he hands to you.
Mathyus says, "You will find the map very useful as you explore Caanae. You can
use READ MAP to view it."

Mathyus says, "There you go, now find the people listed in the TASKS command
and GREET them. I shall be awaiting you here."

At this point, the tour will become much more freeform. You will be allowed to move on your own. Your goal now is to find each one of the people listed in the TASKS command, GREET them, and then follow the instructions that they give you.
Part 2: Mathyus' Tasks
Part 2.1: Meeting Alexor
From Mathyus, go NORTHEAST, NORTHEAST, NORTH, and NORTHEAST to find Alexor. Then, GREET ALEXOR to introduce yourself to him.
The Black Unicorn Inn.
His eyes twinkling with mischief, Alexor stands next to you. Polishing a glass
off, Ivorr stands behind the bar. Diligently attending to some very important
game, a dark-haired boy plays nearby.
You see a single exit leading southwest.

Alexor says, "Hi! I am Alexor. I assume Mathyus asked you to come see me. So
you want me to teach you a little more about how to do things here?"

Alexor gives you a friendly smile.

Alexor says, "Well let's start with this. Lots of beasties always seem ready to
take a bite out of you, so it is important to keep an eye on your vitals."

Alexor glances out the window as though looking for something. He turns back to
you before continuing.

Alexor says, "Try this. Type in CONFIG PROMPT BASIC and you will notice that
you can see your statistics, right on the prompt. Do that now."

Type in CONFIG PROMPT BASIC to display your prompt and continue the tour with Alexor. Your prompt is shown on the bottom left hand side of your window, just before every command that you enter. The first number, after the H: is your current health. Health represents your physical well-being, and if it drops down to 0, you will die. The second number, after the M: is your current mana. Mana represents your mental strength, and is used to power many mental abilities (such as magick). The next part of your prompt, that says <eb> is your equilibrium and balance. If it displays an "e", you have equilibrium. If it displays a "b", you have balance. Performing mental actions takes away your equilibrium, and prevents you from performing more mental actions until it recovers. Physical actions take away your balance, and that prevents you from performing more physical actions until it recovers. Balance and equilibrium recover automatically.
You will now see a basic prompt and stats.

Part 2.2: Meeting Meredith
From Mathyus, go NORTHEAST, SOUTHEAST, SOUTHEAST, and NORTH to find Meredith. Once you've moved into her room, type GREET MEREDITH to introduce yourself to her. She will teach you a little bit about learning skills, as well as sell you some useful items for healing yourself.

bundles. You see a sign here instructing you that WARES is the command to see
what is for sale.

Type WARES to see the list of items that Meredith can sell you. There are many shops throughout the world that will sell you useful items. Most shops are run by players, and one day you may find yourself operating a shop of your own!

Type BUY MANA to purchase a mana elixir from Meredith. The mana elixir works much the same as the health elixir, but it restores your mana instead of health. You can also type MEDITATE to begin meditating, which will restore your mana and willpower slowly over time.

Part 2.3: Meeting Beekin
From Mathyus, go NORTHEAST, NORTHEAST, NORTH, WEST, NORTH, and NORTH to find Beekin. Once you've moved into his room, type GREET BEEKIN to introduce yourself to him. He is going to teach you a little bit about fighting, and more specifically about how to kill things!

consider living in her home. Perhaps you can assist us in removing them."

Beekin says, "If you go DOWN into the cellar you will undoubtedly encounter
one."

Beekin says, "When you see one you can KICK SPIDER or even PUNCH SPIDER until
it perishes."

Beekin says, "Once dead you should GET SPIDER and then bring the beast back to
me."

Beekin says, "Once you have done that simply GIVE SPIDER TO BEEKIN and I shall
reward you properly."

Beekin says, "Now be about your duties! Quickly now. Bring me that spider as
soon as it is dead!"

Type DOWN to go down into the mansion's cellar to hunt down one of the spiders that Beekin was telling you about. Don't be too scared though, the spider isn't strong at all and shouldn't be any problem for an adventurer as strong as you!

See that spider there? It's time to kill it. To start the fight, let's punch the spider. It's easy, just type PUNCH SPIDER. PUNCH and KICK are considered to be the newbie attacks in Imperian. They're not very powerful, but they almost always hit your target and they get the job done.

before jumping to the floor.

Nice job. You hit him pretty hard. Of course the spider wasn't just going to stand there and let you hit him. He attacked you back, but he's so weak that it didn't actually hurt you at all. Do you see how the "b" is gone from your prompt now, and has been replaced by a "-". Since you used a physical attack, you used up your balance. You'll have to wait now until you'll be able to use your balance again on another physical attack. Your balance is automatically recovering on its own. Wait until you see that your balance has come back, and then attack the spider again with KICK SPIDER.

sight blurry.

Imperian has a very rich and deep history. Celine's lengthy dissertation here is but a small fraction of the elaborate world that we have created here for you to enjoy. If you're interested in more history, there are many interesting files, ranging from the history of the world to more specific histories of some of the races in our world, that can be found at the history portion of our website. For now, however, you've completed this easy task, and have but one remaining. Type TASKS to see that Celine's task has been checked off of your list, and move NORTHEAST, NORTHWEST, NORTHWEST, and SOUTHWEST to return to Mathyus so that you can begin your last task.
Part 2.5: Meeting Maxim
From Mathyus, go NORTHEAST then NORTHWEST to find Maxim in his clothing store. Once you've moved into his shop, type GREET MAXIM to introduce yourself to him and begin his task of finding you some clothes.

The tunic that Maxim sells is simple, and won't provide any armor or additional defence for you. What it will do, however, is make you far less naked. The INFO INV command is very useful because it shows you unique numbers on the left hand size for every item that is in your inventory. Sometimes, you may have more than one item of a certain type in your inventory, and will need to refer to one or the other. In that case, you can use the item's number instead of the name. To continue the tour, type WEAR TUNIC to put on the tunic that you just purchased from Maxim.

Part 3: The Horde Invasion!
Once you've returned to Mathyus' room, type GREET MATHYUS to continue the tour.

sword ready, waiting for prey.

Mathyus looks to the east, a look of fear in his eyes.

Mathyus says, "It begins my friend... Once again we must live the terror of our
final days. It is our curse."

Mathyus says, "I wish you did not have to be here to see this, although there
still may be time for you to escape the horror!"

Mathyus says, "Quickly, you must flee to the spring in the center square. Once
there..."

Mathyus goes silent as screams begin to fill the once still air.
H:30 M:30 <eb>
Mathyus says, "I am sorry, I have seen this happen a thousand times yet
still... I shall never grow used to the screams of pain."

The marching of heavy boots fills the streets in the nearby square.
H:30 M:30 <eb>
Mathyus says, "They have already reached the square! Quickly friend. Find the
fountain and then LOOK INTO WATER. That should allow you to escape."

As Mathyus urges you to go, he suddenly goes silent.
He looks down at his chest, a large sword impaling him from behind.
H:30 M:30 <eb>
His eyes roll back into his head as he drops to his knees.
H:30 M:30 <eb>
Putting a large foot on his lifeless back, a hideous humanoid, with dark green
skin, pulls its blood-covered sword from the lifeless frame of Mathyus.

Rotten teeth fill its toothy grin as the beast turns to you next.
H:30 M:30 <eb>
An orc raider says, "Whuts ya gunna do fleshy?"
H:30 M:30 <eb>
The orc begins to chuckle, licking the blood from its sword.

An orc raider says, "Yous gunna die, is whut yous gunna do!"

With a fearsome warcry the orc barrels toward you raising his sword high above
his head.
Use the skills you learned earlier to fight the orc, or you can flee toward the
fountain at the center square.

That is one big, scary orc. We're going to run away instead of trying to stand and fight him. He's got a big sword and he's clearly not afraid to use it. Move NORTHEAST and EAST from the orc to find the fountain. Once you've reached the fountain, type LOOK INTO WATER to look into the fountain and escape this terrible nightmare.

scan the courtyard as thousands of raging orcs trample through the city.

You see women and children being hauled off by slavers as the men are
slaughtered before your eyes.

The butler you met in the mansion races across the city square. As he attempts
to escape, he is cut down by archers. Falling to the ground headlong, you hear
his neck break with an audible snap.

You turn away from the scene to find a massive black skinned orc towering over
you. With his sword raised overhead he brings his weapon downward to split you
asunder.

Falling backward to escape the blow, you fall into the pool of cool water.
Screaming in rage, you see the shape of the orc above you, slicing at the
water.
You seem to sink forever into the fountain, darkness begins to overcome your
mind, your limbs begin to go numb in the cold water.

Your mind is clouded with a vision. The three moons of Imperian hang low over
the land, their powerful influence sending waves of magick across the land.

You see the humans of the land adapt to their environments, the warping magick
evolving their fragile frames, giving them the ability to survive in their
harsh world.

Once again you see the passage of time lead to the creation of several
gatherings of mortals.

They gather to others with similar morals. They stand with those who stand
against magick, for magick, or even for the dangerous arts of demonics.

Cities and councils are as useful as guilds, although they do not provide skills like guilds do. Cities and councils have even larger populations of people to help you, and also offer a place of shelter and protection. Most well-stocked shops can be found in cities and councils, and many tradeskills use cities and councils as the hubs of mercantilism.
